Global Star Party 2014

March 16, 2014
Saturday, April 5, 2014 - 10:00pm to Sunday, April 6, 2014 - 3:00am
OSU Planetarium

Update 6:30pm: The sky is clearing up nicely, so we're going for it! Star party stars at 8:00pm tonight, though it will be a bit later than that before it gets dark out. Wear warm clothes and come on by!

The Global Star Party is April 5th this year, and we are once again joining in the fun. The schedule:

6:00PM: "The Hunt for Habitable Words" in 1153 Smith Laboratory. The presentation will be given by OSU Astronomy Professor Scott Gaudi and OSU Astronomy PhD Student Jennifer Van Saders. Professor Gaudi is an expert in extrasolar planets and the study of the Kuiper Belt, and Jennifer studies the physics and interiors of stars and the coevolution of stars and planetary systems. Both are active, renowned researchers in these fields-- join us as they tell us about other worlds outside our solar system!

7:00PM: Planetarium Shows: "The Moons of Jupiter". We will be showing 20-minute shows on the night sky that evening, with a special focus on Jupiter and its moons. A show will start every half an hour until 10:00PM (last show starts at 9:30PM). No reservations needed-- first come, first served. Note: If weather is poor and there is no star party, the last show will start at 8:30PM.

8:00PM:  (Weather permitting) Star Party! There will be telescope and constellation- viewing on the roof of Smith Lab from 8-10 pm.

All of this is free, open to the public, and doesn't need reservations. We look forward to seeing many of you there!
