Programs for Scouts & 4-H
The OSU Planetarium offers programs for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Brownies and 4-H groups upon request.
Our scouting programs are based upon our standard planetarium program, but are modified to help scouts satisfy the requirements for belt loops, badges, and pins, by learning about the night sky. Visitors in the past have been aided in obtaining merit badges such as the following:
- Cub Scout Astronomy Belt Loop and Pin
- Brownie Space Explorer Try-It Badge
- Boy Scout Astronomy Merit Badge
- Girl Scout Sky Search Badge
Starting in Autumn 2013 we plan to introduce new astronomy programs for 4-H groups. Watch this space for more information.
Scheduling a Planetarium Show for your Group
If you would like to schedule a planetarium show for your group outside of the regular public shows, we are happy to work with you. We do charge a fee for a group presentation. We are currently accepting requests for presentations after November 1. This group reservation option reserves the entire planetarium for the group, provides staffing for the event, and allows your group flexibility in the both the timing and content of shows presented. For information on the fees, please contact the director directly.
To request a show for your group, please use our online show request form to begin the process.
All groups requesting shows, except for those funded/supported directly by the OSU College of The Arts & Sciences, are subject to these admission fees. Financial aid is available to education-based groups such as schools who are unable to pay the fee. If you require funding to make a field trip to the planetarium, please contact the planetarium director directly to apply for financial aid for your group. Our goal is to support all school groups who would like to visit the planetarium.
For more information on planetarium events, telescope viewing, and other events offered by the Astronomy Department, please see the Events page and/or check out our facebook page.
