The Department of Astronomy is pleased to announce the public Grand Re-opening of our newly renovated planetarium! Our planetarium now hosts a state-of-the art Spitz SciDome XD extreme definition digital projector and NanoSeam dome, a digital surround-sound system, comfortable theater seating, and numerous other improvements.
The public Grand Re-Opening of our planetarium will be held on International Astronomy Day: Saturday, October 12, 2013. We will begin showings of our Grand Opening show at 1:00pm, with repeat showings every half hour throughout the afternoon and evening until 9:00pm (the last show starts at 8:30pm).
As of Friday, Oct 4, all of our planetarium programs are sold out! However, you can still attend the star party afterwards (weather permitting). We are also introducing regular public programs to begin in November. Reservations for these programs are now open.
Star Party
Weather-permitting, our Grand Re-Opening will include a star party on the roof of Smith Lab starting at 7:30pm.
With our new planetarium, we are excited to be able to bring astronomy to the public on an entirely new level --- our new system will allow us to fly among the planets and the stars, incorporate current research into planetarium presentations, offer hands-on astronomy labs and demonstrations to college students and elementary students alike, and help bring astronomy to a broad range of audiences.
We hope to see you there!
