The OSU Planetarium receives partial support from the Department of Astronomy to provide for its use in courses taught to OSU students, as well as helping with maintenance and supporting some of our public education and outreach as part of the land-grant mission of The Ohio State University.
Additional funding for the Planetarium comes from a small endowment established by the late Professor Walter E. Mitchell Jr. who was a Professor of Astronomy at Ohio State from 1957 until his retirement in 1991. This fund honors the many contributions of Prof. Mitchell, one of the original founders of the original OSU Planetarium in the 1960s and who led its activities for many years.

Your gift to the Arne Slettebak Fund helps support our long lasting impact on public education and outreach activities in the Central Ohio community. The fund was established April 10, 2015, with gifts from Gerald Newsom (Professor Emeritus), his wife Ann Newsom and David Price (MS 1967, PhD 1975); used to support the needs of the planetarium or the astronomy department, or a related department as closely aligned with the discipline of astronomy, if the planetarium ceases to exist. These funds fund schools to come the Ohio State campus for planetarium shows and support students learning to develop content for the planetarium. These funds help to bring cutting-edge technology and content into Central Ohio.
