What's Up? - Ohio Skylights November 2025

Size of a Supermoon vs a Micro moon

Happy November everyone! We’re starting off the month with the sun rising at 8:01am, and setting at 6:29pm. We’ll finish off the month with sunrise at 7:33am and sunset at 5:07pm, on account of daylight savings time. We will be “falling back” on November 2, where we’ll gain an hour of sleep.

Astronomical Events

On November 5 we’ll have a full beaver supermoon, which will be most visible at 8:19am EST. This name is on account of two things: a supermoon is when the moon is at its closest point to earth on its orbit around the globe, and a beaver moon is the name given to the full moon in November. This is because beavers will build their dams around this time of year. Both of these happen to coincide at the same time on Wednesday November 5, giving us a full beaver supermoon.

On November 17 and 18 the Leonids meteor shower will be at peak visibility. However, the meteor shower will be visible from the 6th of November until the 30th of November. During the peak we will witness up to fifteen meteors each hour.

We will also have a new moon on November 20
