Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

Roof Nights

Telescope Observing Sessions

Weather permitting we hold a variety of class-related and public observing sessions from our observing deck on the roof of Smith Laboratory.

Update for 2025: The Smith Laboratory Observatory is getting an upgrade!  We have installed a new PlaneWave 20-inch telescope and are updating the mechanics of the 60-year-old dome.  We hope to be back for night-time observing in Fall 2025.

Night-time observing programs are limited during winter months due to safety and weather.

Directions

The OSU Planetarium is located on the 5th floor of Smith Laboratory. To get there, use the north-east entrance and take the elevator to the 5th floor. The planetarium will be to your right, and a sign will be pointing the way
