Chamber Demolition and Cleaning Begins

The bids are set, the architect's drawings are done, the construction materials have been approved (mostly).

Let the demolition begin!

Crews from our prime contractor began the demolition of the old insulation and air conditioning system today.  The aging and mostly non-functioning duct work has been taken down, old fiber insulation panels (no asbsetos!) are being removed, and the walls are being stripped down to bare concrete.  The old electrical wiring is being pulled out and made ready for new electrical and data lines.

After all the old stuff is gone, the walls will be cleaned and prepared for the next phases of the renovation.  The concrete walls which will be behind the projection dome will be sealed, then coated with a vapor barrier, then a thick layer of sprayed in foam insulation will cover that.  This will then be painted pitch black.

Once the insulation layer is down, the HVAC contractor will install new air ducts and air handling units.  All of these ducts will be painted pitch black.

While the HVAC work is going on, the electrical contractor will be routing the new electrical and data conduits, including the cable ways for the digital projection unit and the 5.1 digital surround sound speakers.

It's been along wait, but with the roof sealed (no leaks for 6 months despite heavy snow this winter and heavy spring rains!), we can finally start raising dust again.
